Kent Denver and Peak to Peak are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Sun Devils will venture away from home to take on the Pumas at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kent Denver has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kent Denver couldn't beat Denver Christian on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the third inning. The Sun Devils lost 21-9 to the Thunder. The Sun Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Joseph Covell was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jack Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Peak to Peak, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Prospect Ridge Academy get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Thursday. The Pumas might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to AJ Greene's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Dane Hirt was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Peak to Peak: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Campbell, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Kent Denver's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Peak to Peak, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kent Denver hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Peak to Peak struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kent Denver suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Peak to Peak when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Sun Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
