Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Navasota walked away with it. They breezed past the North Forest Bulldogs to the tune of 56-12 on Thursday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Rattlers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 809th).
Navasota got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jace Jablonski out in front who threw for 247 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt, and also punched in one TD on the ground. What's more, Jablonski racked up 122.3 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Kynnavion Chappel helped Jablonski out on the ground, rushing for 113 yards and one score, while also picking up 62 receiving yards.
Navasota didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited North Forest to a completion percentage of just 35.3%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Daquan Pratt and Caysien Douglas, who each logged two passes deflected. Navasota wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 60%.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Navasota, adding 14 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Pratt, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why North Forest lost, don't look at Lashun Gray. Despite the final result, he rushed for 143 yards on only 12 carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jordan Neal also helped out with an impressive 80 receiving yards.
