Volleyball Recap: Thornton Academy's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

If Thornton Academy was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Gorham on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the York Wildcats on Tuesday. The loss put an end to the Trojans' undefeated start to the season.

The final score came out to 25-12, 25-18, 23-25, 25-19.

Marta Semino paced Thornton Academy's offense, picking up nine kills. Semino got some help from Addison Petit and her 24 assists. Petit also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Brooklyn Desrochers, racking up two apiece.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead York to victory, but perhaps none more so than Isabella Parrotta, who had 16 digs, four blocks, and three aces. Parrotta is crushing it when it comes to aces: she's served at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Jillian Holland was another key player, getting 19 digs, ten kills, four aces, and one block.

Having lost for the first time this season, Thornton Academy fell to 4-1. As for York, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Thornton Academy has already played their next game, a 3-0 win against South Portland on the 18th. As for York, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Wells on the 19th.
