Volleyball Game Preview: Covington Chargers vs. Crockett County Cavaliers

Covington is 0-6 against Crockett County since September of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Chargers will take on the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Covington got the win against Douglass by a conclusive 3-0. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Covington was: they took every set by at least 22 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-3, 25-1, 25-3.

Ava McCalla and Caroline Cole were among the main playmakers for Covington as the former hit 66.7% for seven kills and 19 aces and the latter had nine assists and four aces. McCalla is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had seven or more in each of the last 31 games she's played dating back to last season. Kinslee Hamm also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

They weren't the only good server: Covington was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 41 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Crockett County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Everything went their way against Dyersburg on Tuesday as they made off with a 3-0 victory.

The final score came out to 25-10, 25-18, 25-14.

Covington's record now sits at 13-5. As for Crockett County, their record is now 17-6.

Covington came up short against Crockett County in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 3-1. Can the Chargers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
