Softball Game Preview: John Champe Knights vs. Charles J. Colgan Sharks

The John Champe Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Charles J. Colgan Sharks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. John Champe has given up an average of 14.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Things were looking good for John Champe after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 25-9 to Freedom.

Victoria Katilius was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Molly Hamilton, who went 1-for-4 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Charles J. Colgan came tearing into Tuesday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Bruins.

Dorsey Grose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cate Jurack was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Alecia McCray was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Charles J. Colgan's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for John Champe, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
