Football Game Preview: Davis Darts vs. Layton Lancers

Davis has gone 9-1 against Layton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Darts will face off against the Lancers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Davis has six straight victories, Layton has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Davis is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Farmington, who was ranked 20th at the time (Davis was ranked fourth). The Darts came out on top against the Phoenix by a score of 21-10 on Saturday. The 21-point effort marked the Darts' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Davis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bode Sparrow, who picked up 163 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 163 receiving yards gave Sparrow a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tradon Bessinger, who threw for 255 yards and two TDs while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt.

Meanwhile, Layton played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 37-7 loss at the hands of West Field. The Lancers were down 28-0 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Davis' win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Layton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Everything came up roses for Davis against Layton in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 49-6 victory. In that game, the Darts amassed a halftime lead of 28-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
