Softball Recap: St. Joseph Central's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

St. Joseph Central's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Poca Dots, sneaking past 7-6. The victory was some much needed relief for the Irish as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Kate Oxley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madeline Oliashirazi, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Gallion, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

St. Joseph Central's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Poca, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Joseph Central will host Wirt County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Poca, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Scott at 12:00 p.m. The Dots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Skyhawks have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
