Baseball Recap: West Morris Central Extends Winning Streak to Four

West Morris Central posted their closest win since May 7, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Sparta Spartans 1-0. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Wolfpack have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Liam Costello made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.

Costello wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kelly Morgan, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

The win was the fourth in a row for West Morris Central, bringing their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sparta, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Spartans beat West Morris Central by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday.
