Basketball Recap: South Pontotoc Comes Up Short

South Pontotoc was the 52-49 winner over New Albany when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The South Pontotoc Cougars fell just short of the New Albany Bulldogs by a score of 68-66 on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why South Pontotoc lost, don't look at Nash Guerin. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-10 en route to 22 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That's the most points Guerin has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Obryan Ivy, who went 6-for-14 on his way to 15 points.

Issac Gilbert continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for New Albany, dropping a double-double with 23 points and 17 boards. Gilbert's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 22 points. Another player making a difference was Amari Hubbard, who scored ten points.

South Pontotoc's defeat dropped their record down to 18-11. As for New Albany, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

South Pontotoc has already played their next matchup, a 56-46 win against Greenwood on the 11th. As for New Albany, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-47 victory against Houston on the 11th.
