Basketball Recap: St. John Lutheran's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

St. John Lutheran proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 43) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against HEART HomeSchool, sneaking past 58-56. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Saints were down 50-35 in the third quarter.

St. John Lutheran was led to victory by Lebraun Russell and Braylon Dickerson. Russell shot 46% from the field to rack up 18 points and five rebounds, while Dickerson went 5-for-10 on his way to 12 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. That's the most rebounds Russell has posted since back in December of 2024. Akeen Brooks was another key player, putting up five points and seven boards.

St. John Lutheran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

St. John Lutheran's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. As for HEART HomeSchool, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John Lutheran will welcome Countryside Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Saints' defense better be ready for this one: the Minutemen have averaged an impressive 50.3 points per game this season. As for HEART HomeSchool, they will be playing at home against Cornerstone Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
