Basketball Game Preview: York Cougars vs. South Pointe Stallions

York is 0-10 against South Pointe since January of 2020 but things could change on Thursday. The York Cougars will welcome the South Pointe Stallions at 6:00 p.m.

York is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 19th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They were beaten by A.C. Flora 66-22. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Falcons are ranked 57th).

Despite the defeat, York saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jailee McDowell posted 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for McDowell.

Meanwhile, South Pointe put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Camden by a score of 66-54.

South Pointe found their leader in freshman Kaleigh Lucas, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 26 points. The team also got some help courtesy of JaNyia Cunningham, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 14 points and six rebounds.

South Pointe's win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 39.9 points. As for York, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.

York was taken down by South Pointe 90-9 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point York was down 58-3.
