Basketball Recap: Iowa City West Trojans vs. Liberty Lightning
The Iowa City West Trojans entered their tilt with the Liberty Lightning with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. Iowa City West came out on top against the Lightning by a score of 47-35 on Friday. Given Iowa City West's advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Lightning are ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the defeat, Liberty had strong showings from Jerimiah Washpun, who scored 13 points, and Gage Kampman, who scored eight points.
Iowa City West's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for Liberty, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Iowa City West will take on the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberty, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
