Basketball Recap: South View Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

South View entered their tilt with Douglas Byrd on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They enjoyed a cozy 67-51 win over the Douglas Byrd Eagles. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Eagles are ranked 314th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South View's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zakiera Gaillard, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. Gaillard has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last six times she's played. Makyla Drain was another key player, going 7 for 12 en route to 17 points and five rebounds.

South View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Douglas Byrd still got an impressive performance from Jazmine Burns, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Sheryraye Johnson, who posted eight points in addition to five assists and three blocks.

South View pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Douglas Byrd, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

South View will square off against Jack Britt at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in South View's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games. As for Douglas Byrd, they and Cape Fear will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played.
