Football Game Preview: Lamesa Tornadoes vs. Denver City Mustangs

The Lamesa Tornadoes will face off against the Denver City Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lamesa's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Brownfield, posting a 56-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Tornadoes, who have now won five games in a row.

Deev Lugo was his usual excellent self, rushing for 343 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 77-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Ortega, who gained 95 total yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lamesa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 430 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Denver City over Kermit in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mustangs blew the Yellow Jackets out of the water with a 65-19 final score. With the Mustangs ahead 44-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Denver City's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Lamesa, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Lamesa didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Denver City in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 33-29 win.
