The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither United South nor Eagle Pass made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Panthers skirted past the Eagles 2-1. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Roman Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, United South saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Oscar Rodriguez, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Rodrigo Elizondo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

United South's win bumped their record up to 20-9. As for Eagle Pass, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-11-1 record.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. United South will square off against rival Laredo LBJ at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Eagle Pass is set to take on their familiar foe Del Rio at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
