Baseball Game Preview: South Fort Myers Wolfpack vs. Cardinal Mooney Cougars

The South Fort Myers Wolfpack will face off against the Cardinal Mooney Cougars at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games South Fort Myers has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

South Fort Myers fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lakewood Ranch on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 4-3.

Fernando Valenzuela spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in February.

On the hitting side, Juan Angeles and David Acevedo did some serious damage despite the final result: Angeles scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Acevedo scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Acevedo has posted since back in February. Jerry Cruz was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Cardinal Mooney's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell 7-4 to Port Charlotte.

Cardinal Mooney also got a good showing from Keaton White, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. White has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, John Badala was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Cardinal Mooney's record is now 12-3. As for South Fort Myers, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
