Softball Recap: San Diego Starts Season with Defeat at Home

San Diego unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Valley Center Jaguars on Wednesday, falling 7-1. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

Myah Rickman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, San Diego saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrea Murphy, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. Those two hits gave Murphy a new career-high. Diana Martinez was another, going 2-for-4 with two doubles.

San Diego has already played their next match, a 12-2 win against Chula Vista Learning Community Charter on the 28th. As for Valley Center, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 20-0 loss against Temecula Valley on the 28th.
