Baseball Recap: Los Osos Takes Down Ranked Centennial

Los Osos faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Grizzlies skirted past the Huskies 5-3.

Zenen Pena and Jordan Mejico dominated on the mound. Pena tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Mejico tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Pena has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Joshua Chairez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Los Osos has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Centennial, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Los Osos will host Hillcrest at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Centennial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Brea Olinda at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
