Baseball Recap: Canton Wins Going Away Against Sayre

Canton's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the Sayre Redskins 13-5. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Redskins recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Michael Beers was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Fitch, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Carson Castle, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Canton's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Sayre, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Canton and Sayre could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Warriors will square off against Cowanesque Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (548 vs. 221). Meanwhile, Sayre (ranked 605th) will meet Athens (ranked 45th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
