Soccer Recap: Monterey's Run of Six Straight Wins Now Over

Monterey's game on Wednesday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Amarillo Sandies. While losing is never fun, the Plainsmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Sandies are ranked 69th).

With the loss, Monterey broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-4. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those six matchups. As for Amarillo, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home.

Coincidentally, Monterey and Amarillo will both be playing Lubbock-Cooper the next time they take the pitch. Monterey will host Lubbock-Cooper at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while Amarillo will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
