Preview: Chief Leschi Warriors vs. Naselle Comets

Chief Leschi is 0-4 against Naselle since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Chief Leschi Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Naselle Comets at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

You can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Chief Leschi's strategy against Sound Christian on Friday. Chief Leschi didn't even let Sound Christian onto the board and left with a 80-0 victory. Chief Leschi had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chief Leschi to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joseph Earl, who threw for 249 yards and five touchdowns on only eight passes. Earl is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Miguel (Angle) Oyos did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 120 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, after only eight points in their last game, Naselle made sure to put some points up on the board against Taholah on Friday. Naselle blew past Taholah 70-0 on the road. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Naselle had established a 56 point advantage.

Caiden Burke had a dynamite game for Naselle, rushing for 156 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, while also picking up 38 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Scott Henington, who rushed for 61 yards and two touchdowns.

The win makes it two in a row for Chief Leschi and bumps their season record up to 6-1. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 61 points. As for Naselle, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Chief Leschi took a serious blow against Naselle in their previous matchup back in October of 2021, falling 54-16. Can Chief Leschi avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
