Basketball Recap: San Marcos Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact San Marcos can now relate to. They took a 73-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cathedral Catholic Dons. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (62), the Knights still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why San Marcos lost on Friday, don't look at Jalen Williams. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-10 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points. The matchup was Williams' third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Richie Ramirez, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 15 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, San Marcos was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cathedral Catholic only six assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cathedral Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Steven Evans-Glynn, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Evans-Glynn has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Patrick O'Brien was another key player, dropping a double-double with 20 points and 13 boards.

San Marcos suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 25-4. As for Cathedral Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season.

San Marcos does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cathedral Catholic, they will face off against Carlsbad at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Carlsbad comes in on seven and Cathedral Catholic on four.
