Basketball Recap: George West Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 19-19 at halftime, George West was not quite Odem's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 45-34 to the Odem Owls. That's two games in a row now that the Longhorns have lost by exactly 11 points.

When it comes to explaining why George West lost, don't look at Tristen Blevins. Despite the final result, he posted 15 points and five boards. That was a full 44.1% of George West's points, marking the 20th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Bernal, who went 5 for 6 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds.

George West has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-13 record this season. As for Odem, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 6-11 record.

George West will head out to face off against London at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (London has seven straight victories, George West has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court. As for Odem, they will welcome Taft at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Considering Odem has lost five straight at home and Taft three straight on the road , this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum.
