Softball Recap: Williams Takes a Loss

Williams extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-14 in the process. They lost 20-11 to Trinity. Even if Williams couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Samiyah Watkins stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-5 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Allison, who got on base in five of her nine plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

As for Trinity, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-15. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

On Trinity's side, Jessica Ann Huneycutt made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Huneycutt has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Trinity got a massive performance out of Phoebe Mccall, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Mccall has posted since back in February. Karrington Batten was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Williams will square off against Eastern Alamance at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Trinity, they will face off against Randleman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
