Softball Game Preview: Marion Wildcats vs. Salem Wildcats

Marion has gone a perfect 4-0 against Salem recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. Marion will take on Salem at 4:30 p.m. Marion is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.

Marion can't be too worried about heading out to take on Salem: they just beat Crab Orchard at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Wildcats walked away with a 5-2 win over the Trojans on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Salem got themselves on the board against Greenville on Saturday, but Greenville never followed suit. They blew past the Comets 8-0. Considering the Wildcats have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Reagan SHuler, who gave up just two hits to keep Greenville off the board.

At the plate, Mya Russell was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Marah Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Salem is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Marion, their win bumped their record up to 20-6.

Marion skirted past Salem 3-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marion since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
