Basketball Recap: India Williams Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat South Brunswick

Laney was handed a 21-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-49 win over the South Brunswick Cougars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 48-34 back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Laney to victory, but perhaps none more so than India Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. Piper Conklin was another key player, going 5 for 7 on her way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Laney was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Brunswick only racked up four assists.

South Brunswick's loss came despite strong showings from Adyson Bell and Meryn Deutsch. Bell posted 18 points along with eight boards and three steals, while Deutsch went 6 of 14 en route to 16 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Deutsch is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game.

Laney is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for South Brunswick, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

Laney has already played their next contest, a 47-39 defeat against Topsail on the 5th. As for South Brunswick, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-45 victory against West Brunswick on the 5th.
