Basketball Recap: Mayrin Nieto's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jal over Texico

Jal lost against Texico back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Jal Panthers took a 51-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Texico Wolverines. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jal's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mayrin Nieto, who posted eight points along with nine boards and three steals. Nieto is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalia Rivera, who had seven points and six boards.

Jal's loss dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Texico, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.

Jal has already played their next game, a 39-22 win against Hagerman on the 21st. As for Texico, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-33 defeat against Tatum on the 21st.
