Northwest Cabarrus took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the West Cabarrus Wolverines. The Trojans were shut out 3-0 the last time they took on the Wolverines, so the Trojans were just returning the favor.
Northwest Cabarrus walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the second set). The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-13, 25-23.
Northwest Cabarrus got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Madalynn Kennedy out in front who had 12 aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Tetterton-Martin, who had 12 digs and two aces.
They weren't the only good server: Northwest Cabarrus was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 50 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Cabarrus only served eight aces.
West Cabarrus' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Nicely, who had four digs and four aces. Nicely is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Mia Javier was another key player, getting ten digs.
Northwest Cabarrus has already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Mount Pleasant on the 13th. As for West Cabarrus, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against South Rowan on the 18th.
