Football Game Preview: Leander Lions vs. Georgetown Eagles

For the first time this season, Leander will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the Georgetown Eagles will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

It was a proper cat-fight when Leander challenged Del Valle two weeks ago. The Lions simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cardinals 43-14.

Ke'Marion Gordon had a dynamite game, rushing for 167 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Those 167 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Dominic Jaramillo also helped out with an impressive 101 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Georgetown had just enough and edged out Copperas Cove 35-32 two weeks ago. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Bulldawgs are ranked 316th).

Georgetown's win came from a few key players Leander will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jett Walker, who rushed for 105 yards and a pair of TDs. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb McDougle, who threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes.

Georgetown pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.2 points over those games. As for Leander, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Leander skirted past Georgetown 38-35 when the teams last played back in September of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Walker, who rushed for 180 yards and three scores while picking up 7.5 yards per carry.
