Baseball Game Preview: Seeger Patriots vs. Covington Trojans

For the second straight game, Seeger will face off against Covington. The Patriots will be playing at home against the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Seeger is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Seeger let Covington stack six runs on them in the first inning on Monday but luckily Seeger prevailed anyway. The Patriots walked away with an 11-8 win over the Trojans. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won six in a row.

Macyn Hughes made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off 15 hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Seeger is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-7 otherwise. Hughes was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Peyton Grimmett was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Seeger's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-7 when he doesn't). Jaydon Brewbaker was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Covington's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-6. As for Seeger, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Seeger has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Covington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
