Clemson-bound quarterback led Chaparrals to third straight UIL crown with 40-21 win over Guyer.
Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2021 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Cade Klubnik of
Westlake (Austin, Texas) is the 2021 MaxPreps Texas High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound senior quarterback led the Chaparrals to their third straight UIL state title last weekend with a 40-21 win over Guyer in which he threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns. The Clemson-bound signal-caller never lost as a starter and Westlake ended the season riding a 40-game win streak.
In his Chaps career, Klubnik has thrown for 7,426 yards and 86 touchdowns on the way to three straight Texas state titles and No. 2 finish in the final MaxPreps Top 25 rankings. He helped contribute during his sophomore season and took over as the full-time starter before his junior year.
Dematrius Davis of
North Shore (Houston) was the 2020 MaxPreps Texas High School Football Player of the Year. The
5-foot-11, 200-pound senior quarterback put together one of the most
successful individual careers in state history, leading the Mustangs to a
51-3 record as a starter while winning Texas 6A Division I championship
in 2018 and 2019.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in early January.
