Softball Recap: Highland Takes a Loss

Highland fell victim to Griffith and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 1-0. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Rebecca Machuca was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.

Highland's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-11. As for Griffith, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland will square off against Boone Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Griffith, they will challenge Hammond Central at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
