Baseball Game Preview: Salinas Cowboys vs. St. Francis Sharks

The Salinas Cowboys will head out to take on the St. Francis Sharks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Salinas has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with six straight losses, while St. Francis will come in with five straight victories.

Last Friday, Salinas came up short against Templeton and fell 11-8.

Salinas got a big performance out of Jordan Isla, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, Isla posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February. Benji Merino also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Francis was able to grind out a solid win over Hollister on Friday, taking the game 7-4.

Nash Horton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for St. Francis: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

Horton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Javier Fonseca, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Noah Magana was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

St. Francis pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Salinas, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
