Bucktail is a perfect 4-0 against Northwest Area since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bucks will host the Rangers at 4:30 p.m. Bucktail has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bucktail is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Hughesville on Monday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 12-2. The matchup marked the Bucks' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Bucktail saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eva Sockman, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwest Area). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Benton a 22-0 shutout on Tuesday. Give the Rangers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Natalia Ninotti made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ninotti was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Callie Moyer was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Hermanofski, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Northwest Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Northwest Area's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Bucktail, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bucktail hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Northwest Area struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bucktail beat Northwest Area 8-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Bucks repeat their success, or do the Rangers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
