Volleyball Recap: Aubrey Coyne and Adelaide Bezemek Secure Win for Aquinas

While Aquinas's win against Sparta wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blugolds had just enough and edged out the Spartans 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blugolds have posted since September 16th.

Aquinas wouldn't go down easily and took Sparta into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 25-21, 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 16-14.

Leading Aquinas to victory were Adelaide Bezemek and Aubrey Coyne. Bezemek had 15 digs and one block, while Coyne had 33 digs and four assists. What's more, Bezemek racked up 40 assists, the most she's had over her last four contests. Norah Poellinger was another key player, getting ten digs.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Addison Kent, who had 31 digs and one assist. Another player making a difference was Abby Berendes, who had seven digs and three aces.

Aquinas is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season. As for Sparta, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four matches and leaves them with a 16-11 record.

Coincidentally, Aquinas and Sparta will both be playing La Crosse Central the next time they take the court. The Spartans will host the Riverhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Blugolds will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
