Softball Recap: Shelbyville Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

The Shelbyville Golden Bears got the win against the Speedway Sparkplugs on Saturday by a conclusive 20-1. The Golden Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.

Gracie Crafton and Sydney Brown were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Crafton tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Brown tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Crafton went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Brown got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. That's the most RBI Crafton has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Stieneker, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Destiney Johnson was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.

Shelbyville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in ten consecutive matches.

Shelbyville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Speedway, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Shelbyville will challenge Greensburg at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Speedway, they will square off against Monrovia at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
