Baseball Game Preview: Huntington Huntsmen vs. Paint Valley Bearcats

Huntington is 8-2 against Paint Valley since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Huntsmen will venture away from home to face off against the Bearcats at 5:15 p.m. Huntington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Huntington didn't have quite enough to beat Eastern and fell 6-5. The Huntsmen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Seth Throckmorton was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Huntington: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

Throckmorton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Elliott, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Cole Barr also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Paint Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 9-5 to McClain. On the bright side, the five- run effort marked the Bearcats' highest-scoring game to date.

Huntington's record now sits at 4-3. As for Paint Valley, their record is now 0-4.

Huntington took their win against Paint Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Huntsmen have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bearcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
