Softball Recap: Crystal Lake South Takes a Loss

Crystal Lake South extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 24 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-21 in the process. They came up short against the McHenry Warriors, falling 7-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-3 back in April.

Riley Barda was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Hazel Hook, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for McHenry, their record is now 13-15. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

On McHenry's side, Natalie Bender spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Danica McCarthy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 14 matches. Rylinn Gottstein was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Crystal Lake South is taking a road trip to take on Lakes at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for McHenry, they will host Jacobs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
