Softball Recap: Proviso West Takes a Loss

Proviso West had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-3 to make it nine. They lost 16-0 to the Downers Grove North Trojans. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 7-0 to the Trojans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Downers Grove North, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-9. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Downers Grove North's part, Kassie Bollnow made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Bollnow was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Foster, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Viktoria Czech was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Proviso West will venture away from home to face off against Lyons at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Downers Grove North, they will head out to take on Marist at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
