It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Port Allegany had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Coudersport Falcons. Winning may never get old, but the Gators sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Nicholas Wilfong made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with five stolen bases and two runs. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Tyler Fillhart was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Port Allegany pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Coudersport, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6-1.
Coming up, Port Allegany will head out to face off against DuBois Central Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Gators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. Coudersport does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
