Softball Recap: Charlevoix Rayders vs. Elk Rapids Elks
Charlevoix had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-10 to make it five. They lost 29-8 to the Elk Rapids Elks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rayders of the 13-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
Addison Shearer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Carly Mattack also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
As for Elk Rapids, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 20 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.
On Elk Rapids' side, they let Haleigh Yocom and Brooke Fluty run wild. Yocom got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Fluty went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most runs Fluty has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Moazeni, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
While Charlevoix had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
