Basketball Recap: Avalon Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Southern Maryland Christian Academy

Avalon faced Southern Maryland Christian Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Black Knights fell 76-71 to the Mustangs. The Black Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaron McGlone, who shot 56% from the field en route to 19 points. The matchup was McGlone's seventh in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Purvis, who made all 6 shots he took to post 12 points along with six assists and three steals.

Avalon has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-2.

Looking ahead, Avalon will venture away from home to square off against St. Albans at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, they will face off against Severn School at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
