Softball Recap: Scott Highlanders vs. Oneida Indians
Scott extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-13 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Oneida Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-8 back in March.
As for Oneida, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-17. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games.
For Oneida's part, Jolie Duncan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. Duncan has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kennedy Shoemaker was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Shiloh Shoemaker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scott will challenge Union County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Patriots have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Oneida, they will square off against Jellico at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
