Baseball Recap: St. Ignatius Wins Going Away Against Westlake

St. Ignatius barely beat Westlake the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Demons with a sharp 10-3 win on Thursday. The match marked the Wildcats' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Gianni Anthony and Vince Durny dominated on the mound. Anthony pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits, while Durny pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jackson Anthony, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Jackson Boyer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

St. Ignatius' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Westlake, their record now sits at 6-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Ignatius will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Padua Franciscan at 5:00 p.m. on May 9. As for Westlake, they will face off against Lakewood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rangers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Demons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
