Baseball Game Preview: Gate City Blue Devils vs. Cherokee Chiefs

The Gate City Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Cherokee Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cherokee took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Gate City, who comes in off a win.

Gate City barely beat Richlands the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Gate City blew past Richlands 11-1 on Monday. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Blue Tornado recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Gate City got a massive performance out of Zachary DePriest, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Cox, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Cherokee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of West Ridge.

Manning Brooks put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Cherokee is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-9 otherwise. Brooks was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Cherokee's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Gate City, their win bumped their record up to 2-0-1.
