Softball Recap: Point Pleasant Beach Drops Season-High Score on Toms River South

Point Pleasant Beach had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it nine. They fell 15-12 to the Toms River South Indians. On the bright side, the 12- run effort marked the Garnet Gulls' highest-scoring match to date.

Vivian Anderson stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Isabella Fiorile also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

As for Toms River South, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games.

On Toms River South's side, Sophia Colon and Addison Tuper did most of the damage at the plate: Colon went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Tuper went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Colon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kassidy Colangelo, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Point Pleasant Beach will host Neptune at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Toms River South, they will be playing at home against Brick Memorial at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Indians' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
