Basketball Recap: Gilbert Comes Up Short

Gilbert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a blow against the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles, falling 92-49. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the War Eagles are ranked 17th).

Gilbert's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tytrell Smith, who posted 13 points. Josiah Straws was another key player, putting up ten points.

Gray Collegiate Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lamont (Lj) Britt out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave Britt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayden Rowe, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 18 points and three steals.

Gilbert's loss dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilbert will host Brookland-Cayce at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Brookland-Cayce knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Gilbert likes a good challenge. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, they will welcome South Aiken at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Aiken is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season.
