Basketball Recap: Vanguard Academy Wins Going Away Against Merit Preparatory Academy

On Tuesday, everything went the Vanguard Academy Knights's way against the Merit Preparatory Academy Knights as the Vanguard Academy Knights made off with a 56-32 victory. Vanguard Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 24 points or more this season.

Megan Young was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 19 rebounds. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 8.4 boards per game. Amanda Gustafson was another key player, putting up six points and 12 steals.

Vanguard Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Vanguard Academy and bumps their season record up to 4-4. As for Merit Preparatory Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Vanguard Academy will head out to take on Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Vanguard Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Merit Preparatory Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Wasatch Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
