Recap: Holdenville Wolverines vs. Atoka Wampus Cats

The Holdenville Wolverines's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 84-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Atoka. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Monday (62), Holdenville still had to take the loss.

Holdenville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Izaia King, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Seeley, who scored 14 points.

Holdenville's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 6-5. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Atoka, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Holdenville will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Seminole at 2:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Seminole will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 339th, while Holdenville is ranked 158th). Atoka will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Broken Bow at 8:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
