League recap: Las Plumas scores huge upset over Winters

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Winters, who took down 573rd ranked Winters, 28-14.

Las Plumas moved up to 810 from 910 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Butte View. The Thunderbirds climbed the ranks as a result of a 28-14 win over the Warriors.

Wheatland's dynamic duo of Jackson Hopking and Jordan Samson proved tough for Oroville to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hopking threw for 129 yards and two touchdowns and Samson had 60 yards receiving. Joel Johnson helped Wheatland's passing attack out by catching three balls for 57 yards.

Damane Tenner made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Pirates beat the Tigers. The 5-foot-11 senior recorded one fumble.

Chris Mayes was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 172 yards on 13 carries as Winters bested Oroville. Jacob Lowrie also contributed to the rushing game with 121 yards on the ground.

Neil Stinson's team's Hopking and Samson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hopking has thrown for 659 yards this season, while Samson, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 18 catches for 360 yards. Daniel Ward's team's Mayes leads the league in rushing yards with 597.

A big matchup in Butte View this week will be when Sutter takes on the Warriors. The Huskies are currently in first, while Winters is in third.

Sutter extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Orland, 20-3. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
